The North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) Surgical Weight Management Program was recognized as a nationally accredited Metabolic and Bariatric Surgical Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
To meet the high standards of MBSAQIP, the NSMC Bariatric Program met essential criteria for staffing, training and facility infrastructure and protocols for care, ensuring its ability to support patients with severe obesity.
“We’re very proud to have earned this accreditation,” Jaime Rivera, M.D., Medical Director of the NSMC Surgical Weight Management Program said. “Our patients feel very confident coming to NSMC knowing that we have vast experience performing these safe and life changing surgeries.”
Accredited bariatric surgery centers provide not only the hospital resources necessary for optimal care of severely obese patients, but also the support and resources that are necessary to address the entire spectrum of care and needs of bariatric patients, from the pre-hospital phase through the post-operative care and treatment process.
