Salem Hospital has been recognized as a High Performing Hospital for 2022-23 by U.S. News & World Report. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures and Conditions ratings. Salem Hospital is a member of Mass General Brigham.

Beginning this fall, the North Shore Cancer WALK is joining forces with Mass General Hospital’s Everyday Amazing Race to expand the scope and scale of its fundraising program. The Race, which kicks off on the Esplanade in Boston’s Back Bay, focuses on supporting all of Mass General’s cancer centers including the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers, and will continue to support world class care in this community.

Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Thomas Mulroy, 38, was in Chiclayo, Peru, where he cared for indigenous residents in a makeshift clinic in an abandoned warehouse without modern tools or electricity. Dr. Mulroy is a North Shore Physicians Group doctor who was introduced to the volunteer program when working as an urgent care physician in New York City several years ago. “In these remote communities, we see a lot of dietary, skeletal and muscular issues. We bring what supplies and medications we can with us, but it never feels like enough. More volunteers are needed to meet people where they live and provide the care these residents need to survive."

On Nov. 5, Salem Hospital honored top medical staff members and volunteers for exceptional contributions and service at its 2021 Annual Excellence Awards. The annual event, held virtually this year, recognized Dr. Sheaumei Tsai with the Outstanding New Physician Award, Dr. Larissa Lucas and Dr. Patrick Gordon with the Physician of Excellence Award and longtime Salem Hospital Board of Trustees member Terry McGinnis with the E. Augustus Holyoke, M.D., Award.

A Swampscott cardiologist has donated his collection of antique pacemakers for display at Salem Hospital. Dr. Lawrence Block joined Lynn’s North Shore Medical Group in 1987, where he worked with Dr. Stephen Trachtenberg, one of the first cardiologists on the North Shore to implant pacemakers in patients. The devices were introduced in 1960. “Since 1960, pacemakers have become immensely smarter and more sophisticated,” Block said. “They have gone from being the size of a hockey puck, to something that resembles a double-stuff Oreo cookie and today, save millions of lives around the world every year.”

As a member of Mass General Brigham, North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) is pleased to share that it is changing its name and brand to better align with the integrated healthcare system. In the upcoming weeks, NSMC will begin transitioning the North Shore Medical Center name to Salem Hospital and adopting a new brand identity.

NSMC is participating in a health care-based voter registration program call VotER, a non-partisan initiative that helps make it safe and easy for patients, family members and hospital staff to register to vote and request a mail-in ballot for the November election.

COVID-19 infection rates in Massachusetts may be down overall but they remain stubbornly high in some communities, including Lynn. To keep cases down in these hard-hit spots, North Shore Medical Center (NSMC), Lynn Community Health Center (LCHC), the City of Lynn and Mass General Brigham have collaborated on a public education and outreach campaign to increase testing and encourage residents to remain vigilant about avoiding the disease.

On Tuesday, September 22, NSMC will join a virtual town hall event supporting Massachusetts Opioid Screening and Awareness Day. The event is open to all and participants will learn from experts about opioid misuse and treatment and have the opportunity to take a free, anonymous, online screening for themselves or a loved one.

After more than a year of construction, the Mass General Brigham Healthcare Center opens today next to Union Hospital in Lynn. This 41,000-square-foot ‘medical village’ will provide a modern and convenient location for residents of Lynn and the surrounding area to access vital healthcare services in their own community.

All visitors and patients, with a few exceptions, are directed to use our Main Entrance, accessible via our Lower Entrance off Highland Avenue. Our main entrance is the best way for patients and visitors to get to many of our services and departments. Our greeters screen all visitors, for their own safety and the safety of our staff and patients. They also direct patients to their appointments and visitors to their loved ones.

In the lead-up to the Coronavirus surge on the North Shore, I was filled with dread, uncertainty, and anxiety. The plight of the doctors in Italy facing this pandemic was heartbreaking. The uncertainty was unbearable — would we have enough PPE (personal protective equipment) to care for our patients — and ourselves? What would it mean for my career? How would I avoid bringing this virus home to my family?

North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) today announced that longtime Marblehead residents Gordon and Taffy Hall have committed a gift of $500,000 in support of the Department of Cardiology. In recognition of this gift, the cardiac facilities at NSMC Salem Hospital will be renamed the Hall Family Heart Center.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are closely monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The situation remains fluid as public health authorities assess, surveil and attempt to prevent the spread of additional infections. A multidisciplinary team at North Shore Medical Center is collaborating to ensure that we are ready to respond if there is a need to test or provide care for patients with possible COVID-19 infection.

North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) and North Shore Physicians Group (NSPG) doctors were recently recognized by Castle Connolly for earning several Top Doctor 2019 honors in Northshore Magazine. NSMC and NSPG physicians are recognized every year for their clinical excellence and medical and professional experience.

Opening November 3, 2019, at 6 a.m., the new ED at NSMC Salem Hospital will be bigger, brighter and equipped with the most advanced technology to care for patients on the North Shore. “This is a state-of-the-art emergency department,” says Phillip Rice, Jr., M.D., Chair of Emergency Medicine at NSMC. “You’re not going to get better care anywhere else.”

5/30/2017 - North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) today announced that longtime Marblehead resident Arthur J. Epstein has committed a gift of $5 million to NSMC in support of the Medical Center’s plan to build a new behavioral health center at its Salem campus. The gift is the single largest donation in the 144-year history of the hospital.
