  • If so, the parent or guardian is contacted and an initial diagnostic interview is scheduled with a neuropsychologist and a nurse practitioner from the MDEC team. An audiology evaluation is also usually conducted with the child during this initial interview. This initial interview will determine which disciplines should be included in the evaluation. If insurance pre-authorization is necessary which is often the case, the neuropsychologist will complete the necessary forms after the interview. During your initial appointment you will meet with a neuropsychologist to determine the testing needs of your child.

  • The NDC fellowship involves training and supervision in neuropsychological, psychological, and psycho-educational assessment as well as clinical interviewing, provision of feedback, and consultation to referral sources and schools. Referral questions are varied and include ADHD, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, language/communication disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, and trauma. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with interviews being conducted virtually in December.

Prior to surgery, there are medical tests, nutritional evaluation, a nursing assessment and a psychological evaluation. Since Kirk was so heavy, he also had to take a sleep disorder test, which resulted in a sleep apnea diagnosis. “Having to sleep with a CPAP continuous positive airway pressure machine was the most grueling part of the whole process for me,” Kirk says.
