  • Salem Hospital expands cardiac programs in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital and performs the first percutaneous coronary intervention procedure on the North Shore. At the time, Salem Hospital is one of only three community hospitals in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the only one north of Boston licensed to perform advanced interventional cardiac procedures. Tomosynthesis is a relatively new technology that provides a clearer, more accurate view of the breast than conventional 2-D mammography, enabling us to more effectively pinpoint the size, shape and location of many abnormalities,” says Mansi Saksena, M.B.B.S., the diagnostic breast radiologist who saw Velluto at the Breast Health Center. If a physician or radiologist has determined that an IV will enhance the MRI scan results, an IV will be placed in your arm or hand prior to the test by one of our technologists. Once your MRI is completed, the images are reviewed by a board-certified radiologist who sends a detailed report to the physician that ordered the test.

  • All of our breast health facilities have been accredited by the American College of Radiology and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Radiation Control Program. With digital mammography, the radiologist reviews electronic images of the breast using special high-resolution monitors. Also called 3D mammography, it takes images from multiple angles and then builds a 3D image that a radiologist can manipulate, providing a clearer, more accurate view of the breast. A radiologist specializing in breast imaging is on site and reviews and interprets exams while patients wait.
