  • NSMC signs memorandum of understanding to affiliate with Partners HealthCare System, Inc., founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital. NSMC announces the $15 million Best Care, Right Place fundraising campaign, the most ambitious fundraising effort in the organization's history. The group of individually-named, NSMC-owned primary and specialty care practices are renamed as North Shore Physicians Group at all locations, reflecting the growing integration of the practices and their connection to NSMC. NSMC and Massachusetts General Hospital open the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care in Danvers, building on 50 years of clinical collaboration between the two institutions. NSMC Cancer Center integrates with the Mass General Cancer Center and moves from Centennial Drive in Peabody to the new Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care in Danvers.

NSMC plans to turn the Union Hospital property over to Mr. Solimine by October 1, 2020. Mass General Brigham connects a full continuum of care across a system of academic medical centers, community and specialty hospitals, a health insurance plan, physician networks, community health centers, urgent care, home care, and long-term care services.

  • Dramatic Rescue: Danvers Dog Trainer Bounces Back at NSMC Salem Hospital Rochefort was rushed to NSMC Salem Hospital, immediately placed in isolation and provided with nutrients through a feeding tube. Because C. Diff can be resistant to antibiotics, physicians at NSMC used a variety of medications to treat her infection, and Rochefort eventually began to recover. She spent 16 difficult days in NSMC Salem Hospital in very serious condition, but always in good hands. “Over the course of my illness, I lost 40 pounds and was as close to death as I’ve ever been, but my care was extraordinary,” she says. Physicians like hospitalist Elvis Patel, M.D., also made it clear to Rochefort that the NSMC staff took a holistic approach to caring for her. “Dr. Patel took the time to sit and talk with me, not just about my condition, but about my life outside the hospital,” Rochefort says. “That personal connection meant the world to me.”

  • NSMC Program Has Aided In Prosecuting Sexual Assault Suspects This past January, the hospital partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to launch the North Shore’s first TeleSANE sexual assault treatment program, which virtually connects staff at the hospital’s facility with offsite, trauma-informed experts — including SANE nurses — using live video technology as they treat patients in real time. In January, HAWC social worker Elisabeth Nash Wrenn, who helped bring the TeleSANE program to NSMC, said opening the center in Salem meant a “huge reduction in access barriers” when it came to victims being able to receive proper care after an assault. Hassan said that the program has played a crucial role in guiding NSMC healthcare workers through the exam process in ways that prioritize the victim’s comfort while also ensuring evidence is collected accurately and efficiently.
