  • Programs being developed by the City of Lynn’s Food Security Task Force, Lynn Community Health Center, My Brother’s Table, Greater Lynn Senior Services, Salem State University School of Social Work, and North Shore Community Health will receive support to improve nutrition security, equity, mental health, chronic disease management, and workforce development. The Task Force is based out of Lynn’s Department of Public Health and led by Public Health Coordinator Norris Guscott, who was appointed by Mayor Thomas M. McGee to lead this vital effort. At Salem State University, a grant of $300,000 will provide scholarships to students in the university’s healthcare studies, occupational therapy and social work programs who are completing behavioral health internships and fieldwork in Massachusetts. Mass General Brigham’s $50 million investment supports a new, comprehensive community and mental health strategy that works with health centers, educational organizations and more than 20 community-based organizations across Eastern Massachusetts to address chronic health management, mental health, nutrition security and workforce development. Mass General Brigham connects a full continuum of care across a system of academic medical centers, community and specialty hospitals, a health insurance plan, physician networks, community health centers, home care, and long-term care services.

  • An assessment through our Multidisciplinary Evaluation Clinic is scheduled when at least three of the following disciplines are involved: audiology, child psychiatry, neuropsychology, occupational therapy, pediatric neurology, physical therapy, speech and language. Testing may be performed by physical or occupational therapists, a neurologist or neuropsychologist, or a child behavioral health specialist.

  • Specialists at our Salem pediatrics center provide outstanding care in pediatric neurology, pediatric rheumatology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, orthopedic surgery, pediatric surgery, neonatology and high-risk infant follow-up. Matthew spent 99 days at the MGH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit NICU, where he was on a ventilator, received intense nutritional, occupational therapy and feeding team support, and required surgery for a congenital heart defect and hernia repair.

  • In addition to her work with the hospital, she is a Director at the Lynn Community Health Center where she serves on the Finance Committee and chairs the Audit Committee. Gargi Cooper, APRN-BC, is nurse practitioner at the Lynn Community Health Center and a leader in developing programs to provide comprehensive care services to homeless populations. Through this program, clients receive internal medicine care, health promotion, care management and counseling for acute and chronic illness, in settings that include local shelters, the street, the Lynn Community Health Center and single occupancy residences. She is a member of the Adjunct Faculty of Simmons College of Nursing and Health Sciences and holds a Master’s Degree in nursing from the MGH Institute of Health Professions and a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University. She has served as President of the Point Neighborhood Association for more than 20 years and been a proactive advocate for safe and affordable housing, voter registration, civil rights, public education and issues relating to health care and the environment.

  • SALEM–Salem Hospital has received approval from the Department of Public Health to add 24 private patient rooms, netting the hospital an additional 13 medical-surgical beds, and improving the patient experience. As many health care facilities across the country, Salem Hospital is facing steady, increased demand for medical and surgical admissions. Occupancy of Salem Hospital beds has increased from 79% in 2019, to regularly beyond 95% currently. This latest expansion comes less than two months after Salem Hospital also opened a new 16-bed Acute Mental Health Unit for adult emergency behavioral health patients – an extension of the behavioral health service in the Emergency Department. Serving the North Shore community for more than 100 years, Salem Hospital provides innovative medical, surgical and psychiatric care through an array of inpatient, outpatient and virtual settings including Salem Hospital, the Epstein Center for Behavioral Health, North Shore Physicians Group and a medical staff of nearly 700 physicians practicing in a wide range of specialties.
