Dr Brian Sanders Chair of Pediatrics

Brian Sanders, MD, Chair of Pediatrics

As Chair, Dr. Sanders oversees a broad array of pediatric services at Salem Hospital, in addition to actively caring for children in our Pediatric Emergency Department, Dr. Sanders is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. He graduated from the University of Virginia and the Medical College of Georgia and completed a residency and fellowship at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk.


Our team of board-certified pediatricians set our Pediatric Emergency Department apart. Our Pediatric Emergency Department is the only one on the North Shore staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with pediatric physicians, nurses and clinical specialists.


Kristin Anderson, MD

Dr. Anderson is board certified in pediatrics. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and completed her residency at Maine Medical Center.

Elizabeth Baker, MD

Dr. Baker graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed her residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She is board certified in pediatrics.

Cara O'Connor, MD

Dr. O’Connor graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is board certified in pediatrics. She completed her residency at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Kerry Pound, MD

Dr. Pound is board certified in pediatrics. She graduated from the McGill University Faculty of Medicine and completed her residency in pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Betsy Sandberg, MD

Dr. Sandberg graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is board certified in pediatrics. She completed her internship at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Ian Thornley, MD

Dr. Thornley is board certified in pediatrics and graduated from the King’s College School of Medicine in London. He completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and fellowships at the Hospital for Sick Children at Toronto University and Fairview University Hospital at the University of Minneapolis.
