NSMC News Releases
NSMC has announced that, in response to a compelling need for psychiatry services, it will expand the number of behavioral health beds it is including in its construction project.
With this change, the $207 million construction project currently underway at NSMC Salem Hospital will include 120 behavioral beds and be completed in fall of 2019. This is an increase of 30 behavioral health beds over the 90 already planned for the Salem Campus. Of the 120 psychiatry beds, 60 will be designated for adult patients and 30 each for pediatric and geriatric patients.
NSMC has filed a Determination of Need amendment with the Department of Public Health to include the 30 additional psychiatry beds in the project.
The new psychiatry service is part of a $207 million construction project at NSMC that also includes a new, expanded emergency department and 24 new, private patient rooms for medical/surgical patients.
The 120-bed psychiatric center will be named for benefactor Arthur Epstein and will be operated in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital’s Psychiatry Department.
