NSMC News Releases
Peabody-based mixed media artist Leon Dodds has created a one-of-a-kind artwork to honor the heroic nurses, physicians and staff of North Shore Medical Center (NSMC). Inspired by his girlfriend, Lynsay Minton, R.N., a nurse on Davenport 9 at NSMC Salem Hospital, Dodd donated the painting to honor the dedication of health care professionals during the Coronavirus outbreak.
"Living with a nurse, I witness the joy she feels when a stubborn patient opens up and shares his stories with her or the anguish she feels when a patient is suffering, says Dodds, whose work can be found on Instagram at @TheNeverLandKid. "I see how hard she works. This painting is a way I can shed a little light on today's heroes."
As a type I diabetic, Dodds has experienced firsthand the impact healthcare professionals have on everyday lives. In addition to creating custom pieces, like Today's Heroes, he has transformed mundane medical supports for children into works of art. He has decorated casts, amputee parts and cranial bands to reflect young patient's personalities and interests, helping to bring beauty to often challenging situations.
"The way I feel about creating art is how Lynsay feels about bring a nurse," says Dodds. "To be able to use my art to shine a light on those working the frontlines during this time is an honor."
