SALEM, MA – Salem Hospital was named among America's 250 best hospitals, according to a 2024 ranking published Tuesday by a major health care data company.

Healthgrades recognized the top 5% of hospitals in the country for overall clinical excellence, utilizing Medicare inpatient data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for years 2020 through 2022. It did not provide specific numerical rankings.

"To be among the nation's 250 best hospitals is a reflection of the extraordinary efforts of our physicians and staff," said hospital president and chief operating officer Roxanne Ruppel. "Their hard work, compassion, and resilience are the driving forces behind our success in providing exceptional healthcare to the North Shore community."

The company "evaluated clinical performance for approximately 4,500 hospitals across more than 30 common procedures and conditions".

It also measured the hospitals across 18 key specialty areas, with Salem Hospital receiving additional 2024 distinction for being among America's 100 best hospitals for pulmonary care and gastrointestinal care and surgery.
