As a member of Mass General Brigham, Salem Hospital received additional support to open its inpatient behavioral health units in the Epstein Center for Behavioral Health in 2019, which include 30 child/adolescent, 30 senior, and 60 adult mental health beds. Salem Hospital’s Epstein Center for Behavioral Health is the largest inpatient behavioral health resource in an acute care hospital the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” said Mike Davenport. “The commitment they have made is incredible and my wife and I believe strongly in supporting this exceptional facility. - Her decision to undergo full gastric bypass surgery at North Shore Medical Center stemmed from her struggles with severe gastric reflux, caused in part by excess weight as well as diet. After undergoing a series of medical tests and evaluations, as well as a psychological evaluation—all standard for prospective bariatric surgery patients—Brenda underwent gastric bypass surgery at NSMC Salem Hospital in April 2014. Ann holds a bachelor's in dietetics from the University of Dayton and a masters in nutrition from the Massachusetts Institute of Health Professions. Her clinical interests include cardiovascular health, diabetes, digestive issues and nutrition support.

This 16-bed unit will provide care for adult emergency behavioral health patients. The unit will be staffed by mental health professionals working closely with colleagues in the hospital’s Epstein Center for Behavioral Health, which provides inpatient mental health care to pediatric, adult and senior patients. It is encouraging to see so much support for mental health care among our own physicians and staff as well as the leadership of the Mass General Brigham system,” says Mark Schechter, MD, Chair of Psychiatry at Salem Hospital. “When patients are having a mental health crisis, our ability to offer a soothing and therapeutic environment is vital to compassionate and effective care.
