  • In addition to her work with the hospital, she is a Director at the Lynn Community Health Center where she serves on the Finance Committee and chairs the Audit Committee. Gargi Cooper, APRN-BC, is nurse practitioner at the Lynn Community Health Center and a leader in developing programs to provide comprehensive care services to homeless populations. Through this program, clients receive internal medicine care, health promotion, care management and counseling for acute and chronic illness, in settings that include local shelters, the street, the Lynn Community Health Center and single occupancy residences. She is a member of the Adjunct Faculty of Simmons College of Nursing and Health Sciences and holds a Master’s Degree in nursing from the MGH Institute of Health Professions and a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University. She has served as President of the Point Neighborhood Association for more than 20 years and been a proactive advocate for safe and affordable housing, voter registration, civil rights, public education and issues relating to health care and the environment.

  • We offer Intensive and Non-Intensive Outpatient services for people struggling with substance use disorders and related mental health issues. The Bridge Clinic offers walk-in and appointment-based services including addiction medication, peer support and groups, treatment/resource coordination, mental health care, and safe use/harm reduction education. This program functions to help participants develop coping skills, learn wellness tools, and gain peer support. Length of attendance is determined by participant treatment goals and needs, as well as insurance eligibility.

  • Her decision to undergo full gastric bypass surgery at North Shore Medical Center stemmed from her struggles with severe gastric reflux, caused in part by excess weight as well as diet. After undergoing a series of medical tests and evaluations, as well as a psychological evaluation—all standard for prospective bariatric surgery patients—Brenda underwent gastric bypass surgery at NSMC Salem Hospital in April 2014. She ticks off the list of health issues that have all but disappeared. “I no longer take cholesterol medication. She attributes her success in large part to NSMC’s Heart and Wellness program, developed specifically for its bariatric patients. “The program is wonderful,” she says. “You meet with nutritionists and a nurse practitioner on a regular basis.

  • With the enduring and widespread toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, behavioral health needs have become colossal,” said Davenport. “Salem Hospital has developed a wide range of innovative programs for patients facing mental health challenges and is quickly becoming one of the leading community hospitals in behavioral health services in the United States.” There has been a well-documented rise in the demand for behavioral health services in recent years, leaving health care systems straining to meet wide-ranging patient needs. As a member of Mass General Brigham, Salem Hospital received additional support to open its inpatient behavioral health units in the Epstein Center for Behavioral Health in 2019, which include 30 child/adolescent, 30 senior, and 60 adult mental health beds. Salem Hospital’s Epstein Center for Behavioral Health is the largest inpatient behavioral health resource in an acute care hospital the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” said Mike Davenport. “The commitment they have made is incredible and my wife and I believe strongly in supporting this exceptional facility. Appropriate mental health care must be holistic and integrated into physical health and wellbeing.”

  • During these group sessions, participants have a confidential weigh-in and they share struggles and success stories as well as exercises and healthy recipes they have tried. “It’s typical for many program graduates to return for a second or a third session,” said Moore. “They’re very supportive of each other and when they complete the program they miss that support.” Though exercise is a component of the program, joining a health club is not a requirement. For those seeking a less intimidating and medically supervised environment, participants can enroll in the gym at the NSMC Wellness and Integrative Medicine Center in Salem, which has a variety of gym equipment and numerous exercise classes such as yoga and strength training classes.

  • Alie holds a bachelor's degree in nutrition and a master's degree in nutrition and health promotion from Simmons College. She knows the important role food plays in overall health and that there is no “perfect” diet for everyone. She uses her more than 10 years of nutrition experience and knowledge to help patients find their unique way of eating with the goal of improving their health, energy and overall well-being – so not just physical, but mental health too. Ann holds a bachelor's in dietetics from the University of Dayton and a masters in nutrition from the Massachusetts Institute of Health Professions. Her clinical interests include cardiovascular health, diabetes, digestive issues and nutrition support.

  • Salem Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham, has a long-standing commitment to the health and vitality of our North Shore communities. Salem Hospital is committed to providing the highest quality care for every patient who needs us and to measurable improvements in the local population's health status. The 2021 Salem Hospital Community Health Needs Assessment CHNA and implementation planning process was undertaken to inform our community-based efforts as well as to adhere to requirements set by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The Community Affairs and Health Access Committee of the Salem Hospital Board was established in 2004 to strengthen long-standing community relationships advance our community health objectives. The committee is comprised of 20 members including Board Directors, clinical leaders, members of the Lynn Health Task Force, and representatives from the local community health centers and other community organizations.
