Associate Program Director's Message

Matthew Basciotta, M.D.
Associate Program Director
I am an academic hospitalist and the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. I earned my medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University and did my internship and residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. After residency, I joined Salem hospital as a core teaching faculty member.
My work at Salem Hospital has focused on quality improvement and the Lean processes and methodology. For the Internal Medicine Residency Program, I designed and implemented the leadership curriculum, where we help guide junior and senior residents into becoming exceptional mentors for their intern colleagues. We also provide them support and coaching to achieve their dream future careers. I am also leading the research curriculum where you will learn how to interpret medical literature and where to find resources to develop an idea into a research project.
In 2020, I began serving as an Advisory Board member for the Boston chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM). The SHM is a great platform to share experience and knowledge across institutions in Massachusetts, and help residents interested in hospital medicine network with colleagues from other hospitals.
My greatest passion is teaching residents and medical students, and working to create a strong and supportive learning environment on the medical floors. I am so happy to have joined the Salem community where there is emphasis on both professional development and work towards improving community health care and patient lives.
I hope you will consider finding out if this is the right place for you to grow and thrive professionally and personally.
Best wishes,
Matthew Basciotta, M.D.
