- Exercise, eating well and being proactive about going to the doctor and scheduling her annual health screenings, Velluto says, are key to maintaining her youthful vitality. Through NSMC’s collaborative breast health program with Massachusetts General Hospital, Velluto was then scheduled to have a follow-up diagnostic examination done at the Breast Health Center at the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care in Danvers. Tomosynthesis is a relatively new technology that provides a clearer, more accurate view of the breast than conventional 2-D mammography, enabling us to more effectively pinpoint the size, shape and location of many abnormalities,” says Mansi Saksena, M.B.B.S., the diagnostic breast radiologist who saw Velluto at the Breast Health Center. Catching and treating Florence’s breast cancer early, while it was small and still confined to the breast, led to a great outcome,” says her radiologist Dr. Callahan. “Her case really exemplifies the benefits of annual screenings and being proactive about your health.” The Mass General/North Shore Breast Health Center and the Breast Health Center sites at NSMC Salem Hospital, NSMC Union Hospital, NSMC Women’s Center and Cape Ann Medical Center are accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Radiology Control Program and the American College of Radiology.

- Dutrochet Djoko, PharmD, has served as a Salem Hospital trustee since 2022, bringing a unique perspective on health equity to the hospital. I'm also on the Mass General Brigham Trustee Committee on Health Equity and Community Health. I became a town meeting member, served for nine years on the Board of Health, and chaired the Human Rights and Inclusion Committee for five years. As a member of the Board of Health in Danvers, we had to implement some measures locally to mitigate the spread of the virus. I love the mission of Salem Hospital, which is serving the community to improve the health of the whole population.

- With a $500,000 gift to NSMC’s Best Care, Right Place campaign to support The Brudnick Breast Health Center at Salem Hospital, Brudnick and his wife, Susan, are helping to ensure that others on the North Shore have access to state-of-the-art care when they need it. The children’s sports meant several trips to the Salem Hospital ER over the years, and Susan has received regular preventative care at the Breast Health Center. The success of his surgery, the smoothness of his recovery, and the ease for his family as he recuperated close to home underscored for Brudnick the value of having a health resource like NSMC on the North Shore. When it came time to make a gift to the Best Care, Right Place campaign, Susan’s longtime interest in women’s issues made the Breast Health Center a natural fit. The Brudnick Breast Health Center is part of a continuum of coordinated breast care—from regular screenings to a wide array of advanced treatments including breast surgery and cancer care—that NSMC provides throughout its facilities in Salem, Danvers, Lynn and Peabody.
