The neuropsychological interview for adults and seniors MAY include family members or others who know the patient well as appropriate. Results of the testing are reviewed with the patient, typically in a follow-up appointment.

  • This past January, the hospital partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to launch the North Shore’s first TeleSANE sexual assault treatment program, which virtually connects staff at the hospital’s facility with offsite, trauma-informed experts — including SANE nurses — using live video technology as they treat patients in real time. The nurses here find it very supportive,” said program leader and nurse educator Nancy Hassan. “They want to get as much evidence for the victim as possible, so the TeleSANE is there to support the nurses and give them suggestions that we incorporate into our examination.” She added that patients have given overwhelmingly positive feedback, and the center has already implemented some suggestions on how to improve the overall experience for victims. According to Hassan, the center has treated 10 patients since it opened in January.

  • As with many of the patients Dr. Casoli-Reardon treats, Remy was dealing with multiple disorders, including anxiety and facial tics. In Remy’s case, this meant a combination of psychiatric therapy, medication and social skills training, as well as the development of a 504 plan at school—a federal program that provides accommodations, modifications and other services to meet a child’s specific educational needs.

  • The cost to the hospital for each patient per day is $1.70. Two rooms are added to the top floor of Salem Hospital for maternity patients. All 75 patients are successfully evacuated to surrounding hospitals and homes. Influenza Epidemic of 1918 sweeps through Salem; hospital sees a 40% increase in patient volume. North Shore Medical Center NSMC is incorporated and includes Salem Hospital, Union Hospital and Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as a group of affiliated physician practices.
