Our WOC nurses are nationally certified and specialize in working with patients before and after ostomy surgery. They help patients improve and optimize their quality of life by providing educational resources and ongoing clinical support. A physician may refer a patient to a WOC nurse to help him or her learn how to care for themselves, or to assist them in becoming comfortable with the type of surgical procedure they had.   • The gynecologic surgeons at Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery program employ a variety of endometrial ablation techniques, depending on each individual patient's specific needs. All of these procedures are performed while the patient is anesthetized to ensure that she remains comfortable throughout. If anesthesia was received in the operating room, the patient will be taken to the recovery room for observation. Once blood pressure, pulse and breathing are stable and the patient is alert, she is discharged home. If an ablation was performed in the office, the patient can go home about 30 minutes after the procedure is complete.

  • Patients breathe 100% pure oxygen while inside the hyperbaric chamber. Successful healing requires close coordination between the clinic and a patient’s primary care physician. Not all patients are a good candidates for HBOT. In order to make use of the hyperbaric chambers, a patient has to be able to tolerate roughly three times normal atmospheric pressure. Patients who have lung or cardiac disease, or who have ear problems, might not be eligible.

  • Standing Strong: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Helps Diabetic Wound Patient Get Back on His Feet Richard had been treated appropriately by his podiatrist after his surgery, but his diabetes set him up for a serious limb-threatening infection,” says Dr. Balcom. “We care for a lot of diabetic patients in the Advanced Wound Center who have hard-to-treat wounds, but this was definitely an extreme case.” HBOT is a noninvasive procedure that enables patients to breathe 100 percent oxygen while enclosed in a specially designed chamber at pressures up to three times that exerted by the normal atmosphere. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy saturates the patient’s circulatory system with oxygen enabling more oxygen-rich blood to reach the tissues.
