Multi-disciplinary team approach

We provide Wound and Ostomy services through our hospital-based outpatient facility. Our multidisciplinary team of physicians and Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOC) nurses specialize in the treatment of wounds that are difficult to heal. We offer the most current and evidence-based treatments in wound care, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Follow-up care

Follow up care includes continuous evaluation of treatment, and educational materials for patients, caregivers and family. Referrals to specialists are provided as needed. Specialty referrals include:

  • Compression stockings
  • Diabetes education
  • Infectious disease
  • Nutritional management 
  • Orthotics
  • Pain management
  • Physical therapy
  • Plastic surgery
  • Smoking cessation program

Ostomy care clinic services

  • Self-care instruction
  • Peristomal skin breakdown evaluation
  • Stoma complications (recessed, concaved, flat, other)
  • Appliance/pouching evaluation
  • Supply ordering support

Our WOC nurses are nationally certified and specialize in working with patients before and after ostomy surgery. They help patients improve and optimize their quality of life by providing educational resources and ongoing clinical support.

A physician may refer a patient to a WOC nurse to help him or her learn how to care for themselves, or to assist them in becoming comfortable with the type of surgical procedure they had. Our nurses are here to serve as a resource to any concerns and questions from ostomy patients.

Your primary care provider or surgeon may refer you to the Advanced Wound Center by filling out our referral form and faxing it to us, or by calling 978.354.3584.

Some medical insurers cover WOC nursing services. Check with your insurer to find out about your specific coverage.

The Ostomy Care Clinic is located within the Wound Clinic at Salem Hospital, Axelrod Building, 5th Floor.

By appointment only. Tuesdays 12 noon – 3:00 p.m.
