They provide high quality, evidence-based and efficient patient and family centered care. A Hospitalist is always available to address urgent issues and share information with you. As the physician in charge of your care during your hospital stay, your Hospitalist will direct your treatment and consult with specialists or other physicians as necessary. He or she will communicate with you daily about your plan of care, while staying in close touch with your primary care physician as needed.

Dr. Patrick L. Gordan, is a gifted leader, clinician and mentor who joined Salem Hospital in April 2019 to serve as Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine as well as Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit. During the first surge of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Salem Hospital care for more COVID patients than any community hospital in Massachusetts and dramatically expanded its critical care capacity. Home Hospital care gained momentum in 2020 when the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services launched the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver that provided federal regulatory and financial authorization for these programs to combat the COVID pandemic. According to research led by Dr. David Levine, clinical director of research and development at Mass General Brigham Healthcare at Home, providing care at home results in improved quality outcomes, enhanced patient and employee experiences, and increased capacity and access to inpatient care. As the current capacity crisis continues to put strain on healthcare providers and facility-based hospitals, Home Hospital offers a care delivery model that increases facility hospital bed availability to treat the sickest patients requiring more complex care.
