Comprehensive psychiatry services

Inpatient, outpatient, and partial programs

Salem Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham, offers inpatient and outpatient services for adults and adolescents over 16, including an adult partial hospital program, ECT therapy and neuropsychological assessment. Our child psychiatry services include an adolescent partial hospital program, inpatient, neuropsychological assessment, and outpatient therapy and family support. We also have a dedicated psychiatry program for older adults. We work closely with Massachusetts General Hospital, McLean Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

If you or someone you know needs urgent assistance, please call 978.354.4550.

Eating Disorders Program

The eating disorders program at Salem Hospital is provided in a setting that is designed to promote healing and recovery. A multidisciplinary team approach will be utilized to treat the medical and psychiatric complications of the patient’s eating disorder. This team includes a psychiatrist and nurse practitioner, medical nurse practitioner, master’s level clinical social worker/case manager, dietitian, psychologist, group therapists, nurses and mental health counselors, all of whom specialize in the care of individuals and families with eating disorders.

If patients have an existing outpatient team, care will be coordinated with their existing team. For patients who do not yet have an outpatient team, care will be established and carefully coordinated prior to discharge to ensure a smooth transition after acute hospitalization.

Admission process:

Most patients come from area emergency departments or medical floors, but direct community admissions can be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you’d like more information about or program or would like to refer a patient, please email us at MGBBHAdmits@mgb.org.

Online sessions

Salem Hospital currently offers outpatient psychiatry programs primarily through online sessions. These include adult and pediatric partial hospitalization programs. Patients who are unable to access virtual platforms may reach out to office staff to discuss alternative treatment options.
