  • The wide hallway running through NSMC’s expansive new Emergency Department ED already has a name. “We call it ‘Main Street,’” says Sabrina Federico, R.N., M.S.N., Executive Director of Emergency Services. “It helps orient us within a new space that is significantly larger.” The new ED consolidates the Union and Salem emergency departments and features dedicated areas for treating adult, pediatric and behavioral health patients, all accessible off “Main Street.” “Bringing all of our adult and pediatric emergency medicine physicians and nurses together in the new Salem facility will create collaboration across disciplines that will benefit our patients and s... The new ED also offers on-site imaging technology, including CT scanning, ultrasound and X-ray, to provide patients quick, seamless access to these services. “We can’t wait to care for our patients in this beautiful new space,” Federico says. “It’s going to be great for the community.”

  • Last fall, the fund agreed to match 150% of a $1 million fundraising goal, to support the expansion of much-needed behavioral health services. The hospital is now halfway to its overall $2.5 million goal, which will fund services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. There has been a well-documented rise in the demand for behavioral health services in recent years, leaving health care systems straining to meet wide-ranging patient needs. Funds are being used to renovate and update the existing clinic, as well as to hire a resource specialist to coordinate community services such as methadone access, sober housing and other supports for patients and their families. We are thrilled to be a pacesetter in delivering community behavioral health services,” said Mark Schechter, MD, Chair of Psychiatry at Salem Hospital. “Taken together, advancements including the Bridge Clinic, Outpatient Psychiatry, and Collaborative Care at the Bedside programs are transforming community-based mental health care.

  • SALEM, MA – Beginning today, Salem Hospital patients will now have access to Mass General Brigham’s Home Hospital services — part of its efforts to reach more patients across the region with care in the comfort of their own homes. The program was recently granted authorization to expand from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Since then, Mass General Brigham has provided Home Hospital services to over 3,000 patients, shifting the site of care for 15,000 days that would have otherwise been spent inside hospital facilities. More advanced than traditional home health services, Mass General Brigham Home Hospital patients receive comprehensive treatment that involves daily in-home or virtual visits. Services provided include intravenous fluids and medications, laboratory testing, oxygen, radiology studies, electrocardiograms, and ultrasounds directly in the home.

Gargi Cooper, APRN-BC, is nurse practitioner at the Lynn Community Health Center and a leader in developing programs to provide comprehensive care services to homeless populations. She currently leads a novel program to provide primary and urgent care services to the homeless and underserved population in the city of Lynn, serving as medical director of the Recuperative Care Center/ Medical Outreach Program. This program was established in 2018 with funding from North Shore Medical Center and Mass General Brigham and operates in collaboration with Bridgewell, a local social services agency.
