- Tilt table, which helps diagnose why a patient may be experiencing fainting spells. The tilt table actually produces a fainting spell, or syncope, under controlled circumstances, allowing physicians to determine whether the patient has a condition known as vasovagal syncope. Patients requiring cardiac surgery have the procedure done at Mass General, while all other aspects of post-operative care are provided through the Heart Center, including any necessary ongoing evaluation. Angioplasty – the quickest method for opening blocked arteries in patients suffering a heart attack. - Gastric Sleeve Surgery - Salem Hospital
- Gastric sleeve surgery is a surgical weight loss option for patients with clinically severe obesity. In a gastric sleeve procedure, surgeons staple the stomach vertically and in so doing remove more than 85 percent, greatly restricting the amount of food the patient can eat. The procedure is performed using laparoscopic incisions to minimize patient discomfort and reduce recovery time. Some patients with a high BMI undergo gastric sleeve surgery as a first step toward a gastric bypass. - SALEM–Salem Hospital has received approval from the Department of Public Health to add 24 private patient rooms, netting the hospital an additional 13 medical-surgical beds, and improving the patient experience. Offering more private rooms is a significant improvement in our patients’ experience,” said David J. Roberts, MD, President of Salem Hospital. “The additional space enables us to admit patients more quickly from the emergency rooms and cuts down on wait times. It also enables us to convert our few remaining four-bed rooms into double rooms and provide more privacy for our patients and their visitors.” Data from Salem Hospital shows the length of stay for admitted patients has increased since the onset of the pandemic, suggesting that those requiring inpatient care are sicker than they were previously. Patients who deferred care, particularly preventative care, are arriving at the hospital with more serious illnesses and therefore are occupying beds longer.

It was an EPIC day,” says Moskal. “We saw more than 250 patients among all of the providers, but when the mayor of that community heard it was my birthday, she presented me with a cake.
