  • This past fall, the Merry Mixers Organization presented a check for $90,000 to Salem Hospital, representing their largest gift ever to support pediatric care at the hospital. We can’t thank the Merry Mixers and their supporters enough for this incredibly generous gift,” says Brian Sanders, MD, Chair of Pediatrics at Salem Hospital. “We continue to be humbled by their steadfast support and thank each of them for caring for our youngest and most vulnerable patients.” The Merry Mixers have been supporting Salem Hospital for 72 years and show no signs of slowing down. Specific projects that will be funded include workshops to support children and teens, renovations to the Special Care Nursery and the purchase of a special bassinet for fragile infants.

  • The funds, announced by the governor’s office earlier this month, will be used to provide specialized expertise to Salem Hospital that will support discharges directly to a patient’s home, rather than to a skilled nursing facility or other long-term care setting. The money is intended for AgeSpan and GLSS to hire personnel who work with Salem Hospitalto connect patients and their families with resources and services that ensure appropriate supports are put into place in their homes upon discharge. This grant provides community-based organizations, such as AgeSpan, an opportunity to strengthen our relationships with hospital systems and assure patients receive a well-coordinated discharge plan that supports their needs in community-based settings”, said AgeSpan CEO Joan Hatem-Roy. There are 24 regional ASAPs throughout Massachusetts that provide programs and services designed specifically to support older adults in the community. The organizations provide support and assistance with healthcare options, food security, housing, financial wellness, transportation, and safety, among others.

  • The Albright Read Institute supports a wide range of patient-centered process improvement initiatives including: The Albright Read Institute provides support and training to our Internal Medicine residents through process improvement training, presentation of current published research in a monthly journal club, and faculty collaborative support and consultation. ARI has provided support to residents by discussing and helping clarify the statistical methods used in the literature they present. ARI faculty provide consultative support on study design and methodology to residents who are interested in conducting research or improvement projects.

  • Davenport Family Continues Legacy of Support for NSMC Supported by a $1 million challenge grant from the Davenport Fund, the program will be the only one of its kind on the North Shore. “Adding robotic surgery to NSMC is an exciting advance for our facility and our patients,” says Marc S. Rubin, M.D., Chair of Surgery at NSMC. We are incredibly grateful for the support of Mike Davenport and his family’s fund, and are optimistic that others in our community will step forward as we strive to raise an additional $1 million in ongoing support,” says Sara Andrews, Senior Vice President of Development at NSMC. Since its establishment in 1976, the Davenport Fund has provided $5.2 million in support of infrastructure and other capital improvements at NSMC.

  • When the day arrived for the birth in April, Gabriela found the North Shore Medical Center NSMC Birthplace staff ready to give her the support she needed and an exceptional experience. Birthplace staff Karen Stevenson and Sue Nevins, R.N., supported and cheered Gabriela on, along with her family connected virtually, as she welcomed her new baby. The nurses continued to support Gabriela and Alondra by helping with skin-to-skin lactation and catering to her recovery needs. Feeling supported and loved by her birthing team and family, Gabriela then focused her attention to bonding with her new baby and enjoying their special time together.

  • Lacing Up to Fight Cancer: North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN to Support Renovation of Inpatient Oncology Unit When walkers and runners, families and friends, co-workers and neighbors gather at the Salem Willows on June 24 for the 22nd annual North Shore Cancer WALK and 3rd annual North Shore Cancer RUN, they will not only be showing their support for cancer patients and survivors but also helping to advance life-saving, world-class cancer care on the North Shore. This project follows the $50 million in improvements already made to the Salem Campus over the past four years supported by the successful $15 million Best Care, Right Place campaign, which concluded last spring. From diagnosis through treatment, cancer exacts a physical and emotional toll on patients,” says Dr. Weitzman. “While our current facilities allow us to provide effective clinical care, we saw a need to create a more comfortable, supportive environment that will make it easier for patients to focus on their health and well-being."
