  • Back and spine patients typically begin their treatment plan by meeting with one of our physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians to evaluate whether non-surgical treatment options, such as physical therapy, medication, or injections can provide relief. They work with patients to provide the safest and most effective care and collaborate to provide up-to-date treatment approaches. Patients having back and spine surgery are cared for in our state-of-the-art surgery center and most go home from the hospital the same day. Those patients who require an overnight stay will enjoy spacious, private rooms at Salem Hospital with staff who are specially trained to care for orthopedic and spine patients. All of our surgical patients enjoy free valet parking and other amenities.

  • Follow up care includes continuous evaluation of treatment, and educational materials for patients, caregivers and family. Our WOC nurses are nationally certified and specialize in working with patients before and after ostomy surgery. They help patients improve and optimize their quality of life by providing educational resources and ongoing clinical support. A physician may refer a patient to a WOC nurse to help him or her learn how to care for themselves, or to assist them in becoming comfortable with the type of surgical procedure they had. Our nurses are here to serve as a resource to any concerns and questions from ostomy patients.

  • Qualifying for surgery - Surgical Weight Management | Salem Hospital
  • According to the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery ASMBS and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders IFSO patients with a body mass index BMI between 30 and 35 are eligible for surgery if they have weight related co-morbidities, such as Type 2 Diabetes. Patients with a BMI over 35 are candidates, even if they do not have weight related co-morbidities. Some health insurance plans require patients to have a BMI between 35 and 40 with weight related co-morbidities and a BMI over 40 with no weight related co-morbidities to be eligible for surgery. For patients not covered by insurance, there are self-pay options. While many of the costs incurred during the evaluation process will be covered by insurance, some charges may become the responsibility of the patient.

  • Most patients who have a minimally invasive gynecology procedure can go home from the recovery room several hours after the completion of the hysterectomy. Patients typically require several days of oral narcotics in addition to medications such as ibuprofen. Patients usually remain in the hospital for two days or more and require 4-6 weeks of recovery before returning to work and normal activities. Once blood pressure, pulse, and breathing are stable and the patient is alert, she will be discharged home or taken to her hospital room.

  • Patients breathe 100% pure oxygen while inside the hyperbaric chamber. Successful healing requires close coordination between the clinic and a patient’s primary care physician. Not all patients are a good candidates for HBOT. In order to make use of the hyperbaric chambers, a patient has to be able to tolerate roughly three times normal atmospheric pressure. Patients who have lung or cardiac disease, or who have ear problems, might not be eligible.
