  • Pictured: Patients exercise in our new gym on the Salem campus. Physicians in the Mass General Brigham system may enter a referral into EPIC for a patient to attend our program. New patients are encouraged to attend one of our weekly orientation sessions and tour our facility. We present an overview of our program and there is also a discussion session with a patient graduate of our program giving his perspective on the value of the program for long-term health. Under the direct supervision of the program medical director, an exercise physiologist and cardiac rehabilitation nurse design a personalized program of cardiovascular exercise and muscle conditioning for each patient.

  • Opening November 3, 2019, at 6 a.m., the new ED at NSMC Salem Hospital is bigger, brighter and equipped with the most advanced technology to care for patients on the North Shore. “This is a state-of-the-art emergency department,” says Phillip Rice, Jr., M.D., Chair of Emergency Medicine at NSMC. “You’re not going to get better care anywhere else.” The new ED consolidates the Union and Salem emergency departments and features dedicated areas for treating adult, pediatric and behavioral health patients, all accessible off “Main Street.” “Bringing all of our adult and pediatric emergency medicine physicians and nurses together in the new Salem facility will create collaboration across disciplines that will benefit our patients and s... Located in a brand-new building on the Dove Avenue side of our Salem campus, the facility has 65 spacious patient bays enclosed by sliding glass doors that enhance privacy for important patient-caregiver conversations. “It will be a wonderful environment for patients,” Federico says. The expanded facility will improve the flow of patients in and out of the ED and reduce wait times. “The number of beds in the ED will enable us to see more patients in a time-appropriate fashion,” Dr. Rice says. “We’ll also have the 120-bed Epstein Center for Behavioral Health and the new Pingree Floor with an additional 24 private rooms for medical patients to expedite admissions an... Meeting on a monthly basis, the committee has been involved in a variety of projects to date, including the creation of a medication safety brochure and a new website offering information on patient safety and other related topics.   • The bi weekly appointments typically have four patients or more and start with a five-minute orientation about the plan for the appointment. All patients sign a confidentiality agreement not to share information about other patients. A medical assistant takes the blood pressure readings of all patients and then Dr. Parseghian reviews each patient’s case, asking and answering questions. Then the doctor or nutritionist educates the group about a specific subject and the patients share tips or challenges. Many of our North Shore primary care doctors use an online portal called Patient Gateway that provides patients with a secure and convenient way to manage their health and their relationship with their North Shore doctor. Patient Gateway also provides patients with access to their online medical record, including information about medications, allergies and lab results. This electronic medical record can help improve care by streamlining communication between patients, family practice doctors and hospitals.
