  • Preliminary Year | Salem Hospital | Mass General Brigham
  • My training also provided me with skills on how to carefully and critically evaluate and analyze available medical literature to actively update my knowledge and provide the best care to my patients. I was grateful to be trained in a healthcare setting that provided care to a patient population from different backgrounds and cultures which made the practice of medicine more enriching. First, the atmosphere at Salem Hospital is congenial with a huge emphasis on teamwork to provide the best evidence-based medical care for the patient. All of these experiences from my intern year have molded me to become a better sleuth, a better team player and most importantly a better patient centered doctor."

  • As is the case with all of his spinal stenosis patients, Dr. Medlock initially took a conservative approach to Korumpas’s treatment, referring him to Kelly Pajela, M.D., one of three physiatrists who work in his Peabody practice. Surgery is always the last step in the treatment process, when we can no longer keep a patient comfortable by other means,” says Dr. Pajela. “My role with Dennis was to provide nonsurgical treatment options such as medication, physical therapy and teaching him how to modify his physical activities.” More than 80 percent of all patients who have this type of surgery will experience a significant improvement in their function and a markedly reduced level of pain and discomfort.

  • Salem Hospital Celebrates 150 Years | Salem Hospital | Mass General Brigham
  • All these historical events from 150 years ago have a legacy that continues today, but there's one that stands out for the North Shore: when Salem Hospital first opened its Charter Street doors to patients on Oct. 1, 1874, thanks to a gift from Captain John Bertram. The staff has been here a long time and is committed to caring for patients as if they're a family member. If you're a doctor or nurse at Salem Hospital, you know that you're likely to run into this patient at the grocery store or your kids will go to school together. The generational phenomenon is true of patients as well. Suzanne calls it "grandma syndrome," as she has cared for the newborns of children who were her patients - back when they were babies themselves.
