  • Health Care Team | Salem Hospital | Mass General Brigham
  • Hospitalists monitor a patient's progress, coordinate and consult with specialists, and stay in close touch with the patient, with members of the patient's family, and with the patient's primary care physician. Every patient has a primary hospitalist assigned to him or her at all times; hospitalists transition care to another member of the team before going off duty. They continually monitor, assess and record the condition of each patient, administer medications and treatments, and meet the numerous medical and personal needs of their patients. Nurses will discuss with a patient the nature of his or her care, and where appropriate, also with family members. Sometimes a nurse, physician or case manager will refer a patient to a social worker.

  • We are extremely excited to introduce the Home Hospital program, which will revolutionize the healthcare journey for many patients at Salem Hospital,” said president and chief operating officer Roxanne Ruppel. “Delivering top-notch care to patients in the comfort of their homes demonstrates our commitment to innovative, patient-centered care, that also reduces costs.” All of this is supported by a 24/7 continuous remote patient monitoring platform that transmits a patient’s vital sign readings to their clinicians as well as a two-way text and video communication pathway that ensures continual access to a patient’s clinical team. According to research led by Dr. David Levine, clinical director of research and development at Mass General Brigham Healthcare at Home, providing care at home results in improved quality outcomes, enhanced patient and employee experiences, and increased capacity and access to inpatient care. Being able to have that kind of vantage point, you can ensure greater health and safety of a patient as you’re tailoring their care plan to their personal environment,” said Dr. Stephen Dorner, chief clinical and innovation officer for Mass General Brigham Healthcare at Home. Growing the Home Hospital will continue to be a strategic priority for Mass General Brigham as it exemplifies the value of well-integrated and patient-focused care.

  • Accommodations | Salem Hospital | Mass General Brigham
  • For patient safety, bedside rails may be raised at night or during the day. We recommend that patients mark device cases with their names. Personal electrical devices brought in from home including electric blankets, fans, heaters, radios, televisions, etc. are not allowed in the hospital as they could adversely affect nearby patient-care equipment. All patients are asked to be considerate of other patients by playing television sets softly and by turning off the set at bedtime. We cannot offer patients technical assistance for logging on.

One potential benefit of thisprocedure is that, although it restricts theamount of food the patient is able to eat, itdoes not involve re-routing the intestineand may have fewer long-term side effectsthan traditional gastric bypass.” I like to describe the surgery itself as beingthe starting bell,” says Dr. Benedetto.“Once a patient recovers from surgery, that’s when the real work begins. This iswhere our program excels because we makesure the patient is closely monitored, cared for and supported to ensurelong-term success.” Through the procedure, 85 percent of the patient’s stomach isremoved through small incisions made in the abdomen.
